George Michael – Jesus To A Child

27 Dec

Life is unpredictable very few leave a mark, with sadness sharing a most beautiful song from a beautiful artiste.

“Jesus To A Child” – George Michael

Kindness in your eyes
I guess you heard me cry
You smiled at me
Like jesus to a child
I’m blessed i know
Heaven sent and heaven stole
You smiled at me like
Jesus to a child
And what have i learned
From all this pain
I thought i’d never feel the same
About anyone or anything again
But now i know

When you find a love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights
When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight

Sadness in my eyes
No one guessed, well no one tried
You smiled at me
Like jesus to a child
Loveless and cold
With your last breath you saved my soul
You smiled at me
Like jesus to a child
And what have i learned
From all these tears
I’ve waited for you all those years
Then just when it began
He took your love away
But i still say

So the words you could not say
I’ll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
I’ll make it for two
For every single memory
Has become a part of me

You will always be…my love

Well i’ve been loved
So i know just what love is
And the lover that i kissed is always by my side
Oh the lover i still miss…was jesus to a child.

I love this song and is such heartfelt beautiful singing..
I always thought George Michael is such a beautiful singer.
Like people of my generation listened to him first in the eighties ..
A fine fine singer and a great artiste..
I love this lyrics too :
Sadness in my eyes/No one guessed, well no one tried/You smiled at me
Like jesus to a child…
So the words you could not say / I’ll sing them for you/ And the love we would have made
I’ll make it for two / For every single memory/ Has become a part of me /
You will always be…my love..
For me this is one of the best songs ever and George Michael one of the best singers ever.. such a loss
Good night dear friends!
Sincerely, Suresh

24 Dec

Every year post this beloved song for you dear friends..

“Thank God It’s Christmas”

Oh my love we’ve had our share of tears
Oh my friend we’ve had our hopes and fears
Oh my friends it’s been a long hard year
But now it’s Christmas
Yes it’s Christmas
Thank God it’s Christmas

The moon and stars seem awful cold and bright
Let’s hope the snow will make this Christmas right
My friend the world will share this special night
Because it’s Christmas
Yes it’s Christmas
Thank God it’s Christmas
For one night

Thank God it’s Christmas yeah
Thank God it’s Christmas
Thank God it’s Christmas
Can it be Christmas?
Let it be Christmas
Ev’ry day

Oh my love we’ve lived in troubled days
Oh my friend we have the strangest ways
All my friends on this one day of days
Thank God it’s Christmas
Yes it’s Christmas
Thank God it’s Christmas
For one day

The Beatles – Get Back

18 Dec

I very much want to share this Beatles song today dear friends

Get Back : Beatles

Jojo was a man who thought he was a loner
But he knew it wouldn’t last
Jojo left his home in Tucson, Arizona
For some California grass

Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back Jojo, go home

Get back, get back
Back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Back to where you once belonged
Get back Jo

Sweet Loretta Martin thought she was a woman
But she was another man
All the girls around her say she’s got it coming
But she gets it while she can

Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back Loretta, go home

Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged

Get back, get back
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back, get back

Accomplish…

17 Dec

“Accomplish but do not boast, accomplish without show, accomplish without arrogance, accomplish without grabbing, accomplish without forcing.”

― Lao Tzu

This is the definition of accomplishment that like. Am sure there are many paths. This is the one that prefer. I somehow feel genius & ingenuity necessarily must be humble and that is the only way they can manage their gift. Otherwise it may be a burden. But then there are exceptional people who are brash and blase. So may be there are all kinds of paths to accomplishments just as there are all kinds of people and personality types. I think we have a  DNA and we should choose a path that aligns our value set.

I was talking to the young boy and he said ” I do not want to be part of rat race and am still sure will end up in top 10 ― 20 percent of my class.” That’s the self assurance we need. We all have our paths. We need self assurance. I am told sometimes ” You think you are….You think you are…or you think ….”. All because do not talk or do not respond to a certain stereotype. I am not into ” Talk, arrogance, greed, show off, blabber..”. I like quiet self assuredness.

” There is a nice balance, you are at the center of your own orbit or as Dylan said you fade into your parade.”

―  Leonard cohen

Is it cocky? Is it audacity ? I don’t know. At least you are not a grabber and do not seek acknowledgements from people.

I do feel ― we need to reach out, reach out to people, reach out to opportunity, reach out to share…

May be that’s addendum to Lao Tzu.

This for today, have a good day dear friends!

Love, Suresh

Quote 14 Dec

“When you listen to someone, you should give up all your preconceived ideas and your subjective opinions; you should just listen to him, just observe what his way is. We put very little emphasis on right and wrong or good and bad. We just see things as they are with him, and accept them. This is how we communicate with each other. Usually when you listen to some statement, you hear it as a kind of echo of yourself. You are actually listening to your own opinion. If it agrees with your opinion you may accept it, but if it does not, you will reject it or you may not even really hear it.”
― Shunryu Suzuki, Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind

I read a chapter of Zen Mind every day in my work day to find my internal locus. It helps me to do my tasks. It’s also my response to two great friends -ego and anger. If keep these two guys in check. I can easily do the task. I also feel there are no right and wrong, the guy who doesn’t think about others is wrong. I feel every body deserves to evolve and have their opinions and accept them as they are.

This for today, have a good day dear friends.

The donkey’s story

13 Dec

The story:

““One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered up anyway it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and begin to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that fell on his back, the donkey was doing some thing amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and totted off ! Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick is too not to get bogged down by it. We can get out of the deepest wells by not stopping. And by never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up !”

― Azim Premji, IIM A, 2002, 37 convocation talk

I had read this story in  Azim Premji talk at Indian institute of management Ahmedabad in early part of career. I remember this story  again today. My regular working experience has been ridicule. I have had some good moments. But my near every day working experience has been ridicule. Am the donkey in the story. I am amazed at the self congratulatory people with dubious value set with education or some work experience. I continue to shake of the dirt and take step up. Had it not been for ridicule and family challenges. I would be happy to work in a post office and read a book.

More from the Indian Industrialist Azim Premji, whose values and excellence like a lot :

Respect yourself. The world will reward you on your successes. Success requires no explanation and failure permits none. But you need to respect yourself enough so that your self-confidence remains intact whether you succeed or fail. If you succeed 90 per cent of the time, you are doing fine. If you are succeeding all the time, you should ask yourself if you are taking enough risks. If you do not take enough risks, you may also be losing out on many opportunities. Think through but take the plunge. If some things do go wrong, learn from them. ” ( Azim Premji, IIM A, 2002, 37 convocation talk)

Respect yourself. No matter who or what. Hopefully the donkey will have a happy ending.

Remember then :

” Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.”

― Leonard Cohen

Have a good day dear friends!

Much Love,Suresh ( Donkey or dongey)

Bob Dylan : Nobel speech

12 Dec

” When I started writing songs as a teenager, and even as I started to achieve some renown for my abilities, my aspirations for these songs only went so far. I thought they could be heard in coffee houses or bars, maybe later in places like Carnegie Hall, the London Palladium. If I was really dreaming big, maybe I could imagine getting to make a record and then hearing my songs on the radio. That was really the big prize in my mind. Making records and hearing your songs on the radio meant that you were reaching a big audience and that you might get to keep doing what you had set out to do.

Well, I’ve been doing what I set out to do for a long time, now. I’ve made dozens of records and played thousands of concerts all around the world. But it’s my songs that are at the vital center of almost everything I do. They seemed to have found a place in the lives of many people throughout many different cultures and I’m grateful for that.

But there’s one thing I must say. As a performer I’ve played for 50,000 people and I’ve played for 50 people and I can tell you that it is harder to play for 50 people. 50,000 people have a singular persona, not so with 50. Each person has an individual, separate identity, a world unto themselves. They can perceive things more clearly. Your honesty and how it relates to the depth of your talent is tried. The fact that the Nobel committee is so small is not lost on me. ”

― Bob Dylan

“To me [the award] is like pinning a medal on Mount Everest for being the highest mountain.” ―Leonard Cohen. I am more into the other master. Bob Dylan is truly Mount Everest of songwriting. The greatest.

Bob Dylan of course took time to respond to Nobel award and Banquet speech by Bob Dylan given by the United States Ambassador to Sweden Azita Raji.

There is no doubt this is a most wonderful recognition and fresh air. The last time felt something special  was in 1995 when my friend had showed me a three page print out. I asked ” What is this”. She had answered ” email”. She told me it’s part of a university project and her friend had sent her. I knew something special is in store. Internet.

This for today. Now next year Nobel should remember the other master. I will be grateful.

Till then remember  the genius of Dylan ” A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.” ( Dylan)

Have a good day dear friends!

Tributes

6 Dec

“It may be important to great thinkers to examine the world, to explain and despise it. But I think it is only important to love the world, not to despise it, not for us to hate each other, but to be able to regard the world and ourselves and all beings with love, admiration and respect.”
― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha

Leonard Cohen:

“THERE’S this poet from Canada…He plays pretty good guitar, and he’s a wonderful songwriter, but he doesn’t read music, and he’s sort of very strange.” It was an unconventional pitch from a manager hoping to attract the attention of John Hammond, one of the most influential record producers around. But Mr Hammond was intrigued, and decided to invite the poet to lunch. Once they had eaten, the young Leonard Cohen sat down to play a dozen of his tunes. Mr Hammond was hooked: “You’ve got it, Leonard”.

” He saw music as his second calling, and rightly so. His words were all the more beautiful put to sound. After 14 albums and a career that spanned into his 80s, Mr Cohen remained unique in his ability to produce songs that could consume the listener, envelop them in darkness and reflection, and offer great comfort and hope all the while. He articulated like no other the universal unease and helplessness felt by society in a changing world. Some, like “If it be your will”, are more akin to prayer than song; others see Mr Cohen having fun, gently mocking those who praise him: “I was born like this, I had no choice, I was born with the gift of a golden voice.”

Fidel Castro:

” TO MEET Fidel Castro was to notice, first of all, his sheer physical presence. He was tall, erect and had a high, domed forehead that made him look naturally imperious. He was strong: as a youth he was awarded a prize as the best all-round sportsman in Cuba. He was brave to the point of recklessness: as a boy, he once rode a bicycle straight into a wall to prove his mettle. And he was determined, convinced of his own rightness, intolerant of contradiction and immune to compromise. These characteristics he had inherited from his father, a Spanish migrant who brought with him to Cuba the innate stubbornness of thegallego and who became a prosperous landowner. ”

“Fidel was the inspirational leader, the man of action, the master strategist, the obsessive control-freak who micromanaged everything from hurricane preparedness to the potato crop. He was, above all, tireless. In marathon sessions, often beginning after midnight and ending after dawn, he would interrogate visitors about every facet of the political situation in their country. He loved details—the statistics of food production in every Cuban province or the properties of Chinese electric rice-cookers. He kept them in his head and would recite them in those interminable speeches.”

Please read this Economist piece on Fidel Castro : ” The Will to Power :The life and times of Fidel Castro”

Whether you agree with Fidel Castro or not he was a tall leader of this century. Cuba’s free education and health care is second to none. I am no Marxist. I am more welfare state..

Jayalalithaa:

A popular politician from Southern India passed away yesterday. I have followed her career with some interest and found extremely strong willed and thrived in a patriarchal system. Whether you liked her politics or not she was a tall leader in Indian political system for the last two decades. I remember a incident when she was publicly humiliated at her mentor’s funeral in 1987. I was appalled as a  boy and read it in papers.I also saw it on state run television. I always feel we are shaped by our experiences. No wonder she returned a strong willed and determined politician. She may not have been your ideal but deserves all the admiration and respect. My respects..

I like people of substance. Leonard Cohen, Fidel Casro &  Jayalalithaa have my love, admiration and respect.

This for today. Good night dear friends!

Love, Suresh
