M F Hussain : A brush with a legend ( NDTV)

M F Hussain : A brush with a legend ( NDTV)

Many years ago as a young student traveling by Bus in a busy afternoon in Mumbai ( Bombay), saw a red phantom Rolls Royce  at a traffic inter junction. My friend told me it’s MF Hussain in the car. I tried to peep out of the double decker Bus but could not be sure if it indeed was the great artist. Also my friend spoke confidently about everything in general so could never be sure. This is my only encounter or a near encounter or may be no encounter with the great artiste. MF Hussain was  Picasso  of India. Very important cultural figure of modern Indian history. Every time the great man came on television and drew his trade mark ” Horses” with sweeping brushes watched with awe and fascination. He would draw on anything. He was a great artiste. Unfortunately during last few years of his life he got embroiled in a needless controversy and had to surrender his Indian passport and took exile in Qatar. The lumpen elements had their way and  this was sad. I wanted to share this tribute which is little dated but carries the last televised interview of great artiste by Barkha, India’s best ever young journalist. The context of much of the discussion is the controversy and exile. But the man was brilliant and so was his art.  I was also fascinated when the legendary artist passed away at age 95, he had the Joie de vivre of a child and was working on three big projects. I want to grow old like MF hussain. I want to be cool like Leonard cohen when am at foothills of old age.  Hope you like this tribute and  really nice interview. To share from interview..

” I am like a folk painter who does things on the spot. This is how I have developed my way of painting. There are many great painters, thinkers I respect them, but this is my way of doing things.”

“Whether my paintings are done in New York, Qatar, only the title has changed, nothing else. In my small way, I have told my own story, which I hope will remain the hearts of millions of my countrymen.”

Good night friends! Have a nice day! Thank you!

I like George Harrison. One more from my favorite Beatle “Why live in the darkness all your life? Why, if you are unhappy, if you are having a miserable time, why not just look at it? Why are you in the darkness? Look for the light. The light is within.”

Good night friends! Have a nice day! Thank you!

Coke Studio @ MTV : Kyun Na – Amit Trivedi, Dhruv Sangari & Karthik & Chandana Bala

28 Sep

Please see this Amit Trivedi composition for Coke Studio @ MTV ( India), this one really for lyrics by Ozil Dalal. Great Lyrics..

Kyun Na ( Hindi) :

aisa hai jo, tum vaisa hi usko, rehne do.
Kehta hai jo, tum vaisa hi usko, kehne do.
Chhodo ye chinta, auron ki kyun? Tum apni karo
Khud ko toh dekho, Khud ko tattolo, tum kaun ho?

Kyun na?
Nazron ka hum badal dein nazaria.
Kyun na ?
Sookhey pattey mein bhi dekhein,

Hum mor ka pankh.
Ye hi zaroori, zaroori, zaroori hai…….

Kyun na ?
Apni oongli ko khud pe ghoomaein.
Kyun na ?
Andhee hai aadat toh rasta dikhaein.
Kyun na ?
Ye hi zaroori zaroori zaroori hai…..

Kameeyaan toh hoti hein insaano mein.
Geenti hoti varna bhagwano mein.
Kya tujhko naam likhwana hai shaitano mien.
Sudharja abhi chhed hua nahi hai naaov mein.

Jaisa hai jo, tum vaisa hi usko, rehne do.
Kehta hai jo, tum vaisa hi usko, kehne do.
Chhodo ye chinta, auron ki kyun? Tum apni karo
Khud ko toh dekho, Khud ko tattolo, tum kaun ho?

Kyun na?
Nazron ka hum badal dein nazaria.
Kyun na ?
Sookhey pattey mein bhi dekhein,

Kyun na ?
Apni oongli ko khud pe ghoomaein.
Kyun na ?
Andhee hai aadat toh rasta dikhaein.
Kyun na ?
Ye hi zaroori zaroori zaroori hai…..
Boora-bhala jo bhi huva vo sab bhool ja
Kar de dafan khudko hi tu phirse zinda hoja
Janam-din ab mana, tu aaj insaan bana.
Har koi ye karey, jashn yuhi chalta rahey
Phir bhala marne se koi kyun daarey.

Kyun na?
Nazron ka hum badal dein nazaria.
Kyun na ?
Sookhey pattey mein bhi dekhein,

Kyun na ?
Apni oongli ko khud pe ghoomaein.
Kyun na ?
Andhee hai aadat toh rasta dikhaein.
Kyun na ?
Ye hi zaroori zaroori zaroori hai…..

English Translation;

Why not?

Be yourself and let him be
Speak yourself and let him speak
Stop bothering about others, do your own thing
Look at yourself, shake yourself ( search inside) , And ask yourself, who you are

Why not?
Why not ? change the perspective of our vision (Why don’t we change our perspectives on people?)
Why not?
Why not? To see life, even in a dry leaf

We are feathers of peacock
This is what is most important

Why not?
Why not? point our finger to ourselves (Why don’t you ask questions of yourself?)
Why don’t we point out the way, when we are blinded by habit?
This is what is most important

Man is fallible/imperfect by nature
else would have been counted among gods
Do you want your name written into the list of villains?
Mend your ways now , boat is not leaking yet (Mend your ways now, your path isn’t ruined just yet)

Why not?
Why not? point our finger to ourselves (Why don’t you ask questions of yourself?)
Why don’t we point out the way, when we are blinded by habit?
This is what is most important
Forget all bitter – sweet happenings
bury them, rise up
celebrate ,you are born again human
If every one celebrates this way
Why would then death scare any one

Why not?
Why not ? change the perspective of our vision (Why don’t we change our perspectives on people?)
Why not?
Why not? To see life, even in a dry leaf

Why not?
Why not? point our finger to ourselves (Why don’t you ask questions of yourself?)
Why don’t we point out the way, when we are blinded by habit?
This is what is most important

I really liked the lyrics. The composition is also nice. So really ” Why not? point our finger to ourselves and ask questions of ourself? “..

Hope you like this song . Have a nice day friends ! Thank you!

Willem Dafoe : 25th AFI Life Achievement Award tribute to Martin Scorsese.

27 Sep

I like Willem Dafoe and wanted to share this tribute to the great Martin Scorsese for you dear friends. Willem dafoe is one of my favorite actors and Martin Scorsese is a movie legend. I really like listening to Martin Scorsese as he is bright, articulate and always has great perspective. In this clip,Willem Dafoe as a tribute to the great master quotes a line from Anton Chekov’s, “Three Sisters”. He says ” Col.Vershinin in Act IV is making a little small talk with Olga and he says to her ” We must learn to join love of work with love of higher things mustn’t we.” This is really beautiful. I like this little AFI awards videos.

Madhava Dasa ( Madhava Naidoo) : Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Kirtan ( Chanting)

26 Sep

I want to share this mantra meditation or divine chanting with you dear friends. Its sublime and replenishes the soul. I try to share my experiences in a true way here dear friends. I am new to chanting and will share any insights as come to be more proficient and experienced. I feel the magical sounds in the syllable has a elevating feeling something which have not experienced before. Everything gets satiated, mystical music leaves us unsatiated for more and more. The singing, singer, collective singing is a moment of bliss. Iam sure it would be same any other surrendered musical offering of every denomination. I really wanted to share this wonderful singing by Madhava Dasa ( Madhava Naidoo). Devotional singing is wonderful for consciousness. I think every art form which is surrendered( music, dance, painting, writing, acting etc) and as an offering to supreme consciousness or lord has a sublime and ethereal quality. ( Please also refer to post on Elizabeth Gilbert). It is most direct contact with God.

For those interested and for more on this practice of chanting, please see :http://www.iskconbangalore.org/chanting-hare-krishna-mantra

I also wanted to share a video of the great George Harrison on chanting Hare Krishna mantra

I am grateful to my beloved sister and brother for showing me light in this path. This is dedicated to them and all of you.

I want to reiterate George Harrison’s words from Martin Scorsese documentary ” Its hypnotic and kind of nice. You get hypnotized at subtle level which makes you feel so good that you don’t want to stop.” This is how i feel.

This is shared in good faith and bereft of anything and for sublime music. I am open to sublime in every denomination. Hope you like this sublime chanting. Good night friends and have a nice day! Thank you!

” The Nobel Pea…

” The Nobel Peace Prize

A kid asked me a few years ago, “What do you do to get the prize?”

I said, “It’s very easy, you just need three things – you must have an easy name, like Tutu for example, you must have a large nose and you must have sexy legs.”

– Archbishop Desmond Tutu, July 2009

Source : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-10734471

I was reading a note on whether average Academy award winners and Nobel prize winners lived a few years more than nominees, thought  perhaps Archbishop Tutu has more accurate insights 🙂

Have a nice day friends! Thank you!

Passenger : Let her go

24 Sep

My friend shared this lovely song with me and wanted share it with you dear friends. It has topped chart in sixteen countries. Great lyrics really..

“Let Her Go”

Well you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missin’ home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go

Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you’ll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast

You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you’ll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies

But you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missin’ home
Only know you love her when you let her go

Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
‘Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast

Well you see her when you fall asleep
But never to touch and never to keep
‘Cause you loved her too much
And you dived too deep

Well you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missin’ home
Only know you love her when you let her go

And you let her go
And you let her go
Well you let her go

‘Cause you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missin’ home
Only know you love her when you let her go

‘Cause you only need the light when it’s burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go

Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
Only hate the road when you’re missin’ home
Only know you love her when you let her go

And you let her go

Some times the best of the things are transient, wonder why? would they be best, if it comes to end? never know, may be they were best in the moment, then you must ” Let go” the hardest thing, there is whole philosophy for that Buddha, Zen…

“Let her go” you must then, to breathe again…

Hope you like this song as much did sharing. Good night friends and hope you have a nice day! Thank you!
