My brother’s birthday..

31 Jan

“Gently eliminating all obstacles to his own understanding, he constantly maintains his unconditional sincerity. His humility, perseverance, and adaptability evoke the response of the universe and fill him with divine light.”
― Lao Tzu

My brother is one of my heroes.  January 30th is his birth day. He wore new clothes, which he himself bought few days ago, green belt and sports shoes. We went to our sister’s place. He looked handsome in his maroon shirt and dark codra trousers. He had smiled at himself. Of course he does not believe. We bought a cake on the way. At night we planned a get together at sisters place. My mother was already there. We had ordered food, my sister checked one of this food apps and it was delivered in an hours time. The consumer internet business is amazing and technology is  such a boon. We spent most of the time playing with sister’s child. For all of technology’s utility happiness, love and joy is a human experience. Baby is the purest soul on the planet. We play, she plays and we have our birthday celebration. Then we talk.

My brother is happy and he rarely talks. Me and brother talk at night. We have never talked for this while in a long time. Every body sleeps. I listen to him. It’s about his journey and his awareness of self. I reassure him what the doctor told me long ago ” Your brother is remarkable. You must go now and help him find an activity.” He asks me like a child ” Is it so?” I reassure him. He trusts me as we have taken a long journey together. I remind him what my doctor friend told me ” There is not much cure for anything in medical sciences, only diseases are well managed.” I give examples likes Diabetes. I talk about small pox which was eradicated. We talk about other virus. Zika. He asks should we visit the doctor again and it’s been a while. I said of course and tell him to write an email. I had heard the great Indian actor from my state, Mammootty, say ” After God . It is doctor who is most important”. I agree.

What have learnt from my brother? His wonderful acceptance and determination to lead a balanced life. He never complains. Long ago , a poet- painter roomate, a beautiful gentleman had coaxed me ” Your brother is fine and pragmatic. He understands himself and will adapt well.”  The wonderful person who introduced us both to Cat Stevens and was once a accomplished painter poet and studied in Paris and New York. His words always chosen beautifully gave me hope. My brother told me ” It was nice to spend time with Sen.” He told me more about him. His family. I miss him. I met lot of loving and talented people on the other side…

Yes my brother is the same boy who once had a perfect score in Math when he was fifteen. Then we had to take this long hard  different and sometimes beautiful journey called life. I have been devoted to him. He is a nice person. Better person than me. He needs reassurance. Iam always there. My mother and sister is always there. So we are a well knit family. I couldn’t make many friends. My two friends are my life long friends and they are married and live in different cities. When was young, had lot of friends, but then chose to focus on my brother. It’s a good decision.

I must learn from my brother to face up to sometimes life’s indignities, which we face in work situations (Type A BS) ,me do not suffer fools gladly. I must for the sake of a career or “career capital” ( from a kid who has written a book  –  Cal Newport). I must learn not to complain or react as sometimes do. I must learn from my brother.

I have lot to learn from my brother. The world does not understand life skills are very different from career skills, it takes a different journey to appreciate same….

I also learnt from my own reflection ” Whatever you focus on, you do better and get results  “. I focussed on family. I am happy.

Some focus on career, some on them selves, some on a passion, some for nation….

I wish we could focus equally on family, work, passion, nation….may be the deeds of concentration is such that only one is possible….may be am wrong…my master had taught me ” Monotasking not multitasking”..

Never mind this about my dear brother Satish. As the zen master says ” his humility, perseverance, and adaptability..” inspires me.

Hope you have a lovely day dear friends!

Love, Suresh

PS : I posted my brothers picture in a family trip post. He does not like to be clicked often though..

Eagles : Tequilla Sunrise

28 Jan

It’s been a mixed day, registered my first house with mother, also life stared at me with all that has been through, so listen to this song for the day…

“Tequila Sunrise”

It’s another tequila sunrise
Starin’ slowly ‘cross the sky, said goodbye
He was just a hired hand
Workin’ on the dreams he planned to try
The days go byEv’ry night when the sun goes down
Just another lonely boy in town
And she’s out runnin’ ’round

She wasn’t just another woman
And I couldn’t keep from comin’ on
It’s been so long
Oh, and it’s a hollow feelin’ when
It comes down to dealin’ friends
It never ends

Take another shot of courage
Wonder why the right words never come
You just get numb
It’s another tequila sunrise, this old world
still looks the same,
Another frame, mm…

You who never lacked courage, for its all you had, struggle for right word..
You who never wanted to be any one else but yourself, shy but unafraid..
I need to get the courage back, you know love kills you sometimes..
May be tomorrow will be another day…
I have a message though to all students ” Education is the only thing in your control and your excellence is only in your hands” everything else like every other thing may be a roll of dice..
Kids study!!!
Okay, me too will have a house  ( under construction), though seem to only like wooden table, large wooden table, wooden chairs, book shelf and someone to love…
Hope you like the song and will miss you Glenn Frey!
Goodnight friends!
Love, Suresh
Quote 27 Jan

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.”
― Jawaharlal Nehru

I read Discovery of India as a child. I recommend it to every one. I also recommend the television series. In my formative years India’s first prime minister’s influence was fantastic and inculcated a sense of curiosity, wonder and love for science. He was truly progressive and a man of reason. I was born much after his time. But Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharl Lal Nehru were my first and foremost heroes and ideals. Can we say that about today’s leaders ? Nope, might as well listen to Timbaland!

Remember this from the great Indian Prime minister..

“Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt you is determinism; the way you play it is free will.”
― Jawaharlal Nehru

Do travel dear friends and we always have a choice.

Family Trip

26 Jan

“Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.”
― Anita Desai

This year had made one of my goals to travel domestically and if possible one destination internationally. My young cousin who studies in America  came visiting and told me to use weekends to travel outside the city. He seemed to read my mind.  May be it is intentions one has in mind finding a synchronistic response. I immensely enjoy little time spent with him and it’s a peep into a world of refreshing bright young generation. I love young people. My brother in law and sister invited me for a family trip into the coastal belt for a visit to a beach and temple. 350 km  road trip one way. A drive of seven to eight hours one way. Now am sure that pure and honest intentions do come true. You don’t know how. But the universe responds. Some pictures of my first trip this year.

That’s my sister Jaya, playing with her child Ruve, Sarika sister in law looks on happily…

Nothing makes me more happy than seeing my sister happy, now baby child, is double happiness..

We had hired a cottage, baby Ruve and my sister’s father in law after rest from travel..

My mother in her room, am grateful she is happy and though she does give me scares with health issues, am very grateful that she is happy and could endure trip well..

My brother Satish, his happiness means a lot to me, he is always active and sincere in everything he does, where ever go, take him along with me… he did go on a trip with his school friends in recent past..

My generous and large hearted brother in law Amol with his child, am happy for my sister and brother in law, their happiness is important to me…

My hero once said ” Ek bar meine commitment kar de, toh mein khud ki bhi nahin sunta ” ( Once make a commitment, do not even listen to myself). Iam  like my hero then, only difference is my hero is good looking, super star and king, may be am little more well read 🙂

This me. I have two thoughts ” All my life knew what wanted. I went for it. I was never sure. This time am sure.” Make sense..

Like my other great hero said ” Hum shareef kya hue….Puri duniya hi badmaash ho gayi.” (I was made innocent, the whole world has gone dishonest..” I am like my other great hero then, the only differentiator is my hero is good looking, super intelligent and has whole world at his feet, may be am little more humble 🙂

I capture the stillness of water, Arabian sea…

My friend had told me long ago ” The sea has all the answers.” I agree, next stop Goa..

I enjoyed the drive, so much of the country is uninhabited, me would like to live there, am used to be alone and can drive, bike and write…

My sister and her child, reason for our happiness…

Sister in law, sister, baby and me.. taking a break on our way to our destination…see the child, haan…

My sister takes my picture on our return journey, am satisfied person, for all that has been said about me…

We halted  at this resturant ” Kasturi” on our return journey for food, ate my favorite Biryani, chicken biryani, food was brilliant 🙂

Sister, me, my sisters mother in law and sister in law…

That’s me clicked by my brother, at night on the beach…

We visited Ganpatipule. If you ever visit these parts, do consider a simple, peaceful holiday and a road trip. You can book a cottage house for your stay. Please check :

I owe this holiday to my brother in law and sister. They planned everything.  Hope you like this little pictorial family trip tribute.

Remember then what my hero said ” Sari duniya pyar mein padi hui hai … sirf ek mujhe hi haq nahi hai? ” ( The whole world seems to be in love, only me seem to have no right? ” 🙂

May be can say this for certain ” Pure honest intentions come true”. Do travel.

Happy Republic Day! May we become a truer republic where wisdom and reason can go together, girl child can shine brightly and live with dignity…

The number of school girls taking their lives breaks my heart, hope the prime minister is listening, having seen news stories of three girl students…

Love, Suresh

Glenn Frey

19 Jan

I post this song in sadness, listen often to ” New Kid in town” these days, am a Glenn frey and Eagles fan..

For those of us who grew up in eighties, there was  motion picture soundtrack ” The Heat is on”…

“Lyin’ Eyes”  ( Eagles)

City girls just seem to find out early
How to open doors with just a smile
A rich old man
And she won’t have to worry
She’ll dress up all in lace and go in style

Late at night a big old house gets lonely
I guess every form of refuge has its price
And it breaks her heart to think her love is
Only given to a man with hands as cold as ice

So she tells him she must go out for the evening
To comfort an old friend who’s feelin’ down
But he knows where she’s goin’ as she’s leavin’
She is headed for the cheatin’ side of town

You can’t hide your lyin’ eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you’d realize
There ain’t no way to hide your lyin eyes

On the other side of town a boy is waiting
with fiery eyes and dreams no one could steal
She drives on through the night anticipating
‘Cause he makes her feel the way she used to feel

She rushes to his arms,
They fall together
She whispers that it’s only for awhile
She swears that soon she’ll be comin’ back forever
She pulls away and leaves him with a smile

You can’t hide your lyin’ eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you’d realize
There ain’t no way to hide you lyin’ eyes

She gets up and pours herself a strong one
And stares out at the stars up in the sky
Another night, it’s gonna be a long one
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry

She wonders how it ever got this crazy
She thinks about a boy she knew in school
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy?
She’s so far gone she feels just like a fool

My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You set it up so well, so carefully
Ain’t it funny how your new life didn’t change things
You’re still the same old girl you used to be

You can’t hide your lyin eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you’d realize
There ain’t no way to hide your lyin’ eyes
There ain’t no way to hide your lyin’ eyes
Honey, you can’t hide your lyin’ eyes

If you come to the world and share your gift and uplift some souls…

What a life, what more can you do…what could be better.

Thank you for the music, Good Bye Glenn Frey. I will remember you..

As for my friends, do call…

Love, Suresh

Remember to

These are great things to remember. My friend shared this list. I think it is wonderful . The only exception is me ” can never gate crash a party and make it last forever”. I am too shy and quiet for that 🙂

Today while biking ( cycling) and reflecting in a two hour ride and passing by school and college that went to realised ” People who have a sense of purpose or find  a sense of purpose are the people who excel.”  At all ages we must have goals. Children must  be encouraged to have and go for their goals all the time. Lesson from my life.

I think we should live fully and try to be happy. It’s important to have a goal and have fun.

This for today, please remember the list and tell me ” which came first, the chicken or the egg” . I think Donald Trump.

Have a good dear friends!

Ndtv biryani

” “If there is such a thing as foods of the God, it is undoubtedly the biryani. The magic of biryani lies in the way rice is transformed into something ambrosial.” – Pratibha Karan

Biryani, an evergreen classic, really needs no introduction. It’s aromatic, it’s heavenly and one of the most loved delicacies of the country. It is believed that Mughals were the first to introduce Biryani in North India whereas South India was exposed to its brilliance through the Arabs. Biryani flourished in some of the notable Muslim centres throughout the country – including Lucknow, old Delhi and Hyderabad, to name a few – after which it was gradually embraced by all.

The style of cooking Biryani in North India differed from the Southern states. Since a large part of North India was inhabited by vegetarian communities like Brahmins and Marwaris, North Indians successfully experimented with it to arrive at the vegetarian versions. Vegetable Biryani, colloquially calledTehri’ is a classic Sunday meal in most North Indian homes. ”

Please do check :

My friend graciously invited me for a sumptuous Biryani lunch. I listened with wondrous attention and amazement as my friend recounted tales of discovering little known places which offer great food in every city worked. I admired my friends passionate approach to life. This is what would refer as ” Full human experience.” I discovered this term in a ” Humans of New York” post. I found it a perfect reflector  for a truly living experience. We  went together to get the freshly cooked Biryani from a no frill place. I loved the experience of getting it and savoring it. The food was brilliant.

Now, am hardly a foodie. Infact my sister had scolded me when last went out with family that am not experimental enough and do not even try new food. It was sea food. I tried on her insistence. My mother to my surprise seemed to relish continental food. I do like Biryani. All types of Biryani. Biryani is like the spanish food ” paella “. I had seen the cooking of same in a travel show on television.  It’s cooked in bulk in a big container.

I think pleasures of life are simple, we must have a heart and a passion for living…

This is an SOS to all , please do follow above links for good recipes or discover new places in your city, not the five star ones where the general manager says ” Today is a bright day. Hope you enjoy the food.” or something  stupid like that…but the exciting no frill places..:)

This is perhaps my first ever post on food 🙂

Good night friends! Let me twist Omar Khayyam and say “Eat Biryani. This is life eternal. This is all that youth will give you. Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.” 🙂
