Louis van Gaal : Man of the match ( Netherlands vs Costa Rica, World Cup Brazil)

7 Jul

I watched the Netherlands vs Costa Rica Quaterfinal World Cup Brazil. David vs.Goliath match. Hoping and rooting for the underdog is my religion. I was born that way. I had no choice. But it was Goliath’s army and the general that won.  Louis van Gaal was the man of match.

” Dutch coach Louis van Gaal once again demonstrated his shrewd tactical expertise by replacing first choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen with Tim Krul towards the end of the second half of extra time. The substitution proved to be another masterstroke by the 62-year-old, as the custodian went on to save two spot-kicks to earn the Netherlands a place in the semi-finals.

“We told Tim that he would be the better goalkeeper for a penalty shoot-out because he’s taller,” said Van Gaal. “We didn’t say anything to Cillessen because we didn’t want to interfere with his preparations or his concentration. However, there is no question whatsoever that Cillessen will be in the starting line-up again for the next match. It was just that in this case we felt Krul was the better option and he proved us right. He went the right way on every penalty.”

I also saw the Tim Krul the dutch goal keeper distracting and saying few things to one or two penalty strikers of Costa Rica. The gamesmanship apparently  worked.

Please see from the same article ” I watched them [Costa Rica] against Greece and studied them and I told the players that I knew where they were going to shoot to make them a bit nervous,” the 26-year-old said with a mischievous grin. “Maybe it worked. It happened before when I played against Frank Lampard: I told him that I knew and I saved it. I just tried that again. I’m so happy it worked today.”

Strategy, preparation and tactics defeated David. I now understand why a coach is so central to a football match.Team Louis van Gaal was the man of match.

” 24 years have passed since the Central American side last reached the knockout phase, with their campaigns at Korea/Japan 2002 and Germany 2006 ending all too early. As central defender Giancarlo Gonzalez explained, the current crop of Ticos were determined right from the start to set that record straight.

“We wanted to surprise the world and Costa Rica too. We wanted to make history and I feel we’ve achieved that with everything we’ve done,” said the centre-half, the heartbeat of a defence that conceded just two goals in five games at Brazil 2014.”  Please see : http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y=2014/m=7/news=a-job-very-well-done-for-tired-ticos-2400800.html

More from the article ” Having the final word, the inspirational Gonzalez said: “We know how winning feels now, and we wanted to go all the way to the end. We’ve got young players, we’re going to work hard and we’ll be back in Russia.” As the credits roll on this stirring Tico tale, their many fans can take comfort from the fact that the final words on the screen are not “The End” but “To be continued”.

Surely there is no end, but to be continued..

Netherlands were deserving winners aganaist a fighting, doughty and inspirational Costa Rica. Their spirit were finally outwitted by a master coach, tactics and preparations.

This all too happens in the real world. David must keep the winning feeling going and sharpen the sling.Congragulations Netherlands and Very well done Costa Rica!

Hope you have a lovely day dear friends! Thank you!
