Amy Poehler: You Can’t Do It Alone

25 Oct

I read a quote of Amy Poehler sometime back and that set me thinking for more and here is a Harvard commencement speech ( 2011) for you dear friends. I want to share this speech for a singular thought – ” You Can’t Do It Alone.” This has been hauntingly true in my life. I have always believed we only succeed with good people. Amy Poehler says ” What I have discovered as a person in this world. And that is this: you can’t do it alone. As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration. Other people and other people’s ideas are often better than your own. Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life. No one is here today because they did it on their own. Okay, maybe Josh, but he’s just a straight up weirdo. You’re all here today because someone gave you strength. Helped you. Held you in the palm of their hand. God, Allah, Buddha, Gaga. Whomever you pray to.” This is true.

I also have come to carry a conviction that we need little bit of grace in all we do for it to come to fruition. We meet the people we are supposed to meet. Leonard Cohen once said ” If I knew where the good songs came from , I would go there more often.” . Guess we must be grateful and can’t do it alone. Amy Poehler is very right.

Hope you like this talk, good night friends and hope you have a nice day! Thank you!
