Nindiya Re ( Dear Sleep): Kaavish, Coke Studio Pakistan

13 Jul

Please listen to this beautiful lullaby.

Title: Nindiya Re – Dear Sleep

Language: Urdu

Poetry: Jaffer Ali Zaidi

haule haule raaton ko
slowly slowly at nights

chupke se aaja re
ever so quietly come over

nindiya re nindiya re
dear sleep dear sleep

akhiyon men samaaja re
befall my eyes

nindiya re
dear sleep

kaheen door sitaaron pih
somewhere far in the stars

chanda ke ishaaron pih
Twilight moons directions

palne ko tere jo
to grow with you

pariyon ne jhulaaya re
Fairies that have swung

nindiya re
dear sleep

jugnu panchhi pyaare pyaare
luminescent fireflies birds lovely lovely

tere sapne bunen
your dreams have woven

neend bhari in aankhon se teri
sleepy dreamy eyes

chupke se kahte rahen
silently the path says

soja re soja re
sleep dear sleep dear

sapnon men khoja re
lose beautifully in dreams

soja re soja re
sleep dear sleep dear

sapnon men khoja re
beautifully lost in dreams

nindiya re
dear sleep

Hope you like this lovely song, beautifully rendered and orchestrated minimalistically. it has a soothing effect.

You know, this is my first attempt at translation from Urdu ( Hindustani) to English since school, hope captured nuances right , am excited 🙂 Have a nice day dear friends! Thank you!

Hey, u were right! It is “palne ko” and not “paalne ko.” The lyrics confounded me……

Lovely translation… the only thing I’d say is that ‘palney’ or ‘palna’ here means cradle, rather than the palna of nurture. So the fairies are rocking the cradle amongst the stars. Hope this is useful!
